M adeira has, as yet, registrated fourty eight (48) recovered cases, eighty six (86) positive cases of COVID-19, 38 active cases and 1242 negative cases until the present date. At this moment, there are 283 cases under active surveillance on record.
The Regional Government anounced further restrictive measures, some more specifically, for the Tourism Sector. Consult the official statement by the Regional Government at: https://www.madeira.gov.pt
The State of Emergency in which we live, means the need to confine the entire population, as a way to contain the spread of COVID-19.
It is important that, in the case of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, entry into the territory, through airports, is reduced to the strictly necessary and to the unavoidable in all means.
- At the present moment, the mandatory social isolation regime for all passengers disembarked at all airports in the Region is in force, including for resident passengers, the obligation to remain in a specific infrastructure, naturally different from the one for which they initially booked, is imposed. We are certain that this procedure represents a great help fighting against the spread of COVID-19.
- Considering the constraints that will result thereof for non-residents who are in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, we recommend that decisions be made so as to avoid major constraints on all those involved.
Therefore:
- We advise that contacts be made with the respective airlines, tour operators, or travel agents to adjust returns.
- In the event of difficulty in establishing that contact, the respective diplomatic representations should be contacted
Furthermore, passengers disembarking at airports in the Autonomous Region of Madeira are currently subject to temperature control and the obligation to complete the survey that allows for the assessment of their health status in relation to COVID-19. If there is evidence that the passenger has symptoms associated with COVID-19, he/she will be promptly referred, according to the IASAUDE protocol.
Tourist animation companies, travel agencies and maritime tour operators are suspended of all or any tourist animation activity, such as excursions, trips, guided visits, amongst others.
Besides these activities, all parks, gardens and walks are closed, as well as all tourist attractions, such as, museums, cable cars and the Monte sledges.
Only transfers to the airport are permitted, with a maximum capacity of 50% of the transport.
At the airport, passengers and aircrew members temperature control, as well as inquiries at arrivals are being implemented and the archipelago ports’ and marinas’ are closed.
Madeira was the first region in Portugal to implement a "Contingency Plan for Emerging Infections: Coronavirus", presented on 03 February 2020, a document that is subject to continuous updates.
As an early detection measure, all tourist operators and local accommodation facilities when first contacting their guests must fill in a "Risk Assessment and Early Detection Questionnaire".
This "Questionnaire" is intended to assess the travel and residence history of guests upon their arrival and to verify the existence of symptoms such as cough, fever and respiratory difficulty.
